‘Plenty of films excel at portraying a city in a particular time, on a particular night, but few are deft enough, like Wings of Desire, to go beyond: to ghost through the streets, peer through the windows, catch the fleeting glances and take a metaphysical sounding of a place.’ – Phil Hoad, The Guardian

‘An elusive, poetic vision of Berlin before the Wall fell, an extraordinary, haunting piece that evades the hard edges of plot for a moody shimmer of ideas tracing lost souls about a cold city.’ – Ian Nathan, Empire

Wings of Desire, Wim Wenders’ spellbinding fantasy drama is an unforgettable portrait of Berlin made in 1987, just before the fall of the Berlin wall. This new, digitally restored version is being re-released in cinemas, returning the film to its rightful place, on the big screen. The film follows two angels who guide the city’s struggling inhabitants without ever interacting with them. When Damiel (Bruno Ganz) falls in love, he longs to experience life in the physical world. A chance encounter with an actor (Peter Falk), gives him an unexpected opportunity.
