Founded in 1937 by a group of employees at the Fairey Aviation Works in Stockport, Fairey Band is in constant demand for concerts, both at home and abroad. In recent years, the band has enjoyed further recognition outside the confines of the Brass Band movement, with its involvement in the ‘Acid Brass’ project – in which the band has been able to display its flexibility in adapting to a totally different musical concept performing in rock/pop festivals in the UK and overseas. The band appointed Adam Cooke as its Musical Director in 2020.

Sarah Groarke-Booth studied music at University of Salford, gaining a BA (Hons) in Band Musicianship and a Masters Degree in Performance (specialising in conducting). As a conductor, she has worked with many ensembles including wind bands, brass ensembles and choirs. Her association with brass bands over the past three decades has led her to direct bands in Wales, Bristol, London and the North West of England. She has had many contest successes, including winning Regional and National titles. An experienced adjudicator, she is a member of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators – for which she has served as their PRO. She has judged contests across all sections at both a National and Regional level.

Sarah went on to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has worked as a professional actress for the last twenty years, performing in many theatres throughout the country and appearing on our screens in various television programmes. She runs her own drama school for primary aged school children – Kickstart Drama – and she has also worked as a Musical Director on a number of stage shows. She continues to work as an actor, voiceover artist, compére, conductor and adjudicator; and still finds time to fit in a bit of trumpet playing.
